HyperDAAC Overview

This HyperDAAC product offers a viewer for the Global 1KM Land data products available from the LandDAAC, the Land Data archive of NASA's Earth Observation programmes. It includes:

1. Six Global Land Classification products.
2. The Global AVHRR 1Km Archive, comprising ten bands from each of about one hundred periods for which data are available. These are whole-world satellite images and metadata.

When you launch the program, you are presented with a global overview image (generated from NDVI data). From this image, there are two main functions available:

1. Browse Data. Use HyperLens® "Lenses" to view a window on any AVHRR or Land Classification product.
2. Extract Data. Define an Area of Interest, and generate a new scene covering that area at high resolution, up to 1Km. You can then browse the new scene, just as you did the global overview.

The data supplied on the CDROM includes a complete browse archive at 32Km and 64Km resolution, and the Land Classification bands at up to 1Km resolution. It is also a "virtual archive" of the entire dataset: although we cannot distribute a near-terabyte-size archive on CDROM, the software will retrieve data over the Internet whenever you select a new AVHRR scene that is not already loaded.
