Classification Bands Viewer and the ColourMap Editor

When you open a lens on any of the Land Classification Bands or on the Date Index for any of the AVHRR Products, HyperLens will open a ColourMap Editor. This enables you to highlight any or all of the classifications, in your choice of colours.

Each colourmap editor appears in a popup window. To the right is a colour editor, with which you can specify Red, Green and Blue components to define a colour. To the left is a list of classifications in the data you are viewing. You will probably have to scroll to see all the classifications.

When you open the lens, it is transparent. Pixels of a classification are shown only when you select the band in the colour selector. You can select any number of bands to highlight them together.

Using the Colourmap Editor

  1. Use the RGB colour editor to define a colour. Move the sliders or enter the RGB colour values (0-255) directly.
  2. Click on the classification you wish to highlight. All pixels having that classification are highlighted in the lens, using the colour currently defined in the colour chooser.
  3. Repeat to highlight another classification in another colour.

The colour selection is a toggle, so clicking on a highlighted classification will de-select it.

Example

[colourmap editor]

The image shows an area of southern England. The lens (which is centred near WebÞing's R&D office) is the IGBP classification layer. Within that layer, three classifications have been selected and are highlighted in particular colours. Pixels having other classifications are not shown, so the underlying NDVI image remains visible.
